Morning of Surgery

Morning of Your Mohs Surgery

Start your surgery day feeling informed, confident, and ready. Here’s everything you need to know and do before you arrive.

Eat and Drink Normally

  • Enjoy a light breakfast—toast, yogurt, oatmeal, or a small sandwich.
  • Stay hydrated. Having a snack and water helps you feel better while you wait
Example: toast and fruit, light oatmeal, or yogurt.

Cleanse Thoroughly

  • Shower or bathe on the morning of surgery, washing your body and hair with soap/shampoo to reduce infection risk
  • Do not apply lotions, creams, perfumes, or makeup near the surgery site.

Medications: Take What’s Needed

  • Take your regular medications (e.g., blood pressure, diabetes meds) with a small sip of water
  • Only skip medications if we’ve specifically advised you to (e.g., aspirin, supplements with bleeding risk) .

What to Wear

  • Choose loose, comfortable clothes—button-up or zippered tops if working on your face or head
  • Avoid jewelry and tight accessories near the surgical site.

Bring These with You

  • A list of medications
  • Photo ID & insurance card
  • Light snack & water
  • Something to pass the time (book, puzzle, tablet)
  • Glasses (if needed)
  • A driver or companion—especially for facial procedures or if sedatives were recommended
