
Morning of Your Mohs Surgery
Start your surgery day feeling informed, confident, and ready. Here’s everything you need to know and do before you arrive.
Eat and Drink Normally
- Enjoy a light breakfast—toast, yogurt, oatmeal, or a small sandwich.
- Stay hydrated. Having a snack and water helps you feel better while you wait
Cleanse Thoroughly
- Shower or bathe on the morning of surgery, washing your body and hair with soap/shampoo to reduce infection risk
- Do not apply lotions, creams, perfumes, or makeup near the surgery site.
Medications: Take What’s Needed
- Take your regular medications (e.g., blood pressure, diabetes meds) with a small sip of water
- Only skip medications if we’ve specifically advised you to (e.g., aspirin, supplements with bleeding risk) .
What to Wear
- Choose loose, comfortable clothes—button-up or zippered tops if working on your face or head
- Avoid jewelry and tight accessories near the surgical site.
Bring These with You
- A list of medications
- Photo ID & insurance card
- Light snack & water
- Something to pass the time (book, puzzle, tablet)
- Glasses (if needed)
- A driver or companion—especially for facial procedures or if sedatives were recommended
Arrival & Timing
- Arrive on time—this helps keep everything on schedule.
- Plan to stay 2–6 hours or more, depending on how many tissue layers need to be checked under the microscope
- Don’t schedule other appointments afterward—you’ll be with us until your surgery and repair are complete.
